Everyone has their achilles heel – and mine is my throat. Yes, it’s an odd image, but somewhat appropriate for a gal who has been known to put her foot in it…. Anyhoo, I’ve got a horrible, horrible sore throat. I had plans to show you my latest crochet project (it’s not going very well, I need your help and advice) and muse on about life in general, the way I do. But actually, all I want to do is drink ten thousand cups of tea to put out the fire in my throat. And lie down. So off I go. But don’t worry, I’ll be back in a day or two with a stonking cold. That’s my other achilles heel. Everyone has two heels, right? In my case, one heel leads to the other. Sigh.
OK – I have NOT tried this myself, but only because the advice was given to me after I recovered from recent sore throat (typical. A friend suggested gargling with a mix of salt AND bicarbonate of soda (approx 1/2 teaspoon of each in a coffee mug of hot water) – so far, so ordinary, I know – and then (and this, I think, is probably the genius bit) swallowing a teaspoon of condensed milk. The condensed milk soothes and coats the inside the of your throat – and of course, if you have a sweet tooth, tastes delicious. (Actually, I think that one teaspoon may not be quite enough…)
Hmmm, sounds …. interesting. Just one problem – I can’t gargle. I can’t whistle, either, or skim stones across ponds or make the sound of an owl hooting with a piece of grass. I think I would be quite an unexciting act at a fairground. Typical, I do agree, that your friend gave you the cure after you’d recovered. ‘Twas ever thus x
Get well soon!!!
Hope you feel better soon Alice. Mine also is my throat. I get dreadful tonsillitis every few months.
