Meet the Author – Lizzie Chantree

January 10, 2018

A big hello to my featured author today, Lizzie Chantree. Lizzie is a fully-fledged entrepreneur as well as a successful novelist with four books to her name already.

Lizzie is kicking off with 5 fun facts about herself:

“Fact 1. I once designed Hoop It Up Basketball street wear for Converse.

Fact 2. I began writing my own stories after reading The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien in school. It was such an inspirational book and I couldn’t wait to turn the next page to find out what would happen next.

Fact 3. I invented my first product called RunwaySpray ™ which is a lipstick size ‘ladder’ stop spray for hosiery, when I was 17. My first customers were Superdrug and The Arcadia Group.

Fact 4. I met my husband when I had just turned 17. We have been married for over 20 years. I’m still a romantic!

Fact 5. I take my dog to work with me, when I’m writing. She very helpfully sits on my lap, with her head on my notebook or laptop keyboard.”

Quick Q&A

1. What made you think of the title Ninja School Mum?

I was thinking about the skills parents have, like negotiation, crisis management, planning, and strategy, and thought they sounded similar to something a ninja might have to do! All parents are able to multi-task and are under so much pressure. It was nice to turn the idea upside down and make the main character a harassed school mum with some unusual skills.

2. How did you decide on the cover art?

I worked with my publisher on choosing the final image. It was one that we all felt best represented the main character in the book, called Skye. I love the fact that the cover colour is strong and vibrant, as this represents her past. Skye has become quite reclusive and obsessive, but discovers she still has the inner strength to build a new life for herself and her son.

3. How long did it take to complete the manuscript?

It took around eight months from the first idea to a finished manuscript that was edited and proof read.

4. What are your plans now?

I am currently writing the sequel to Ninja School Mum, but I have also completed a modern romance manuscript, about a family of eccentric artists and a woman who wishes she could paint. She wants to express herself through art, but is restricted by her family and their expectations of how a sensible young lady should behave.

Book blurb:

Obsessive-compulsive school mum, Skye, is a lonely elite spy, who is running from her past whilst trying to protect the future of her child. She tries hard to fit in with the other parents at her son’s new school, but the only person who accepts her unconventional way of life is new mother, Thea.

Thea is feeling harassed by her sister and bored with her own life, and she suspects that there is something strange about the new school mum, Skye. Thea has secrets of her own and, although the two become unlikely friends, she hesitates to tell Skye about the father of her own child.

Zack’s new business is growing faster than he could have dreamed but, suddenly, he finds himself the owner of a crumbling estate on the edge of a pretty village, and a single parent to a very demanding child. Could he make a go of things and give his daughter the life she deserves?

When three lives collide, it appears that only one of them is who they seem to be. You never know who the person next to you in the school playground really is.
