My clever friend Tara over at Sticky Fingers has been running a gallery at her place for ages now. I think it’s a brilliant idea, but I’ve been holding back from joining in because, well, not to put too fine a point on it, my photos are crap. I’ve had many cameras in my life, and blamed them all successively for my failings, but the sad truth really is that I couldn’t compose a good photo if my life depended on it. I once visited Monet’s garden at Giverney, and managed to take a photo of a slimy piece of bridge instead of the world’s most famous waterlillies.
This week, though, Tara’s theme is Creatures and, as my lovely cat Mme Bovary is such an inspiration and delightful, constant irritant and joy, I can’t resist showing this picture again. It’s Mme B, ‘helping’ me do a blog post. As you can see in the background, I was actually trying to write before she inserted herself between me and the screen and started purring madly.
Though she is not much of a help in my working life, she has been a little pussycatty tower of strength in other ways. She always seems to know when I am down, and will come and shed hairs on me to cheer me up, or drape herself across me. I love the way she is first up in the morning, and comes bounding to greet me, while other members of the household stagger about in much less enthusiastic ways.
I’ve never owned a cat before. I may never do so again (how could I ever replace her?). But I am loving every minute of her company. Apart from the presents of worms and birdie body parts, of course.
Ah, now mine used to bring in live rodents, so think yourself lucky!!!! I miss my cat. So glad yours is a pillar of strength to you, feeling very envious!
She’s a real joy. Are you thinking of getting another? I think you should …
I do wonder how many of us bloggers have feline friends!
There do seem to be a fair few of us who are cat-owners …. I wonder what else we all have in common (apart from sheer fabulousness, of course ;))
Lol at worms and birdie bits, could be worse I suppose, but lovely that she brings gifts for you 😀 Jen.
I do try and take it in a spirit of gratitude but the recent gift of one severed bird’s leg was a bit of a test ….still haven’t found rest of the bird, yuk!
Strange how cats always seem to know exactly when the worst possible time is to interrupt something!
I know, they have the most amazing timing ….ooops, here comes Mme B now ….
He is such a darling. Looking at him and reading your blog reminds me so much of my own pet tomcat Pao whom I had to leave at my parents’ house since my apartment does not allow pets. Cats may be fond of living in their own worlds most of the time, but they do know when their mistresses are in need of a little love and attention.
I agree, cats get a bad press but I think they can be very supportive …sorry to hear you had to leave Pao behind x
Lovely photos, and Mme Bovary is the best name for a cat I’ve ever heard!
Ah, she is an inspiration in many ways, the devine Mme B. She spends a lot of time looking for ships on the horizon, just like her namesake. I do sometimes feel like pointing out that Dulwich is landlocked x
What a fab name for a cat. Lovely photo too although I do need to get going as I’m highly allergic to cats and feel a sneeze coming on.
Oh my goodness, poor you! Here’s a nice antihistamine and a tissue. Big blow now …. all better!
Mme Bovary is a very pretty cat with a fabulous name. I love the way cats insert themselves in front of computer screens, leaving the poor blogger with a face and mouthful of cat fur. They are devious!
She is a little scamp, it’s true. Maybe she’s running her own rival catblog upstairs and wants to stop me posting …..;)
Your cat helps you blog? You are way cooler than I ever thought you were.
Yes, Tara, it’s true, I’d be nowhere without Mme B. She’s typing this for me nowb. Oopsie, her little paw slipped there …
I adore her name!
Thank you, she spent a lot of her formative kitten days curled up on my copy of Mme B so it was a foregone conclusion really ….
